– I’m not naturally someone who switches jobs often. However, a friend told me about an open production supervisor position at Patria, and I decided to apply.
The role of production supervisor evolved into engine repair shop manager after Antti started at Patria. Recently, changes in the organization have added customer relationship management to his responsibilities. Meetings with Defence Forces representatives are held regularly, and contact is made as needed.
As the Repair Shop Manager, Antti ensures that daily tasks run smoothly and that goals and schedules are met. Supervisory work is above all about guiding people and activities.
– My most important job is to make sure everyone can work smoothly. If someone comes to my door and says, ‘May I interrupt you?’ I always answer, ‘Of course!’ That’s what I get paid for - to solve my team’s problems.
As a Manager, Antti ensures that daily tasks run smoothly and that goals and schedules are met.
The responsibility of a line manager is highlighted by the fact that aircraft engine repairs are strictly regulated. Certain tasks require appropriate training and authorization.
– Daily work always needs small adjustments, especially if something urgent comes up or if an employee is sick, Antti says.
Antti emphasizes the importance of job satisfaction. When work feels meaningful and the atmosphere is good, employees are motivated and committed.
– The most rewarding thing is to see the team progress toward a goal and achieve it. It also feels good when we can fulfill any additional requests from the customer. Successes are visible in people’s expressions.
Of course, not everything always goes perfectly at any workplace. Antti believes that a good work culture means tackling difficult issues together and not letting them linger.
– It can be challenging for a supervisor to bring up a tough subject, but it’s worth it. After a constructive and respectful discussion, the situation is usually resolved, and the issue doesn’t weigh on anyone’s mind.
Employees sometimes face everyday challenges in their personal lives. Antti thinks it’s great that Patria tries to accommodate different life situations as much as possible.
– Combining work and family life works well here. Remote work isn’t possible in the repair shop, but sometimes there’s a need to be absent or take care of something during the day. It’s great that these things can be arranged with the supervisor.
At Patria, combining work and family life works well.
As a parent of three young children, Antti appreciates that it’s easy to agree on flexibility with the employer. Most of his free time is spent managing family life, leaving little time for personal hobbies.
– In winter, though, we skate and ski together a lot. In summer, we cycle and hike. And after the kids go to bed, there’s sometimes time for a workout at the gym.
