AI-WASP programme in brief
Patria leads an industry consortium for the new joint Artificial Intelligence Warfare Adaptive Swarm Platform (AI-WASP) programme, which will develop a new generation, scalable and cognitive (AI-controlled) multifunctional software defined converged aperture and transceiver (AIMA).
Objective of the programme
The AI-WASP programme aims to substantially enhance Europe's defence capabilities, particularly in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). The principal objective is to develop a versatile and adaptive platform capable of autonomous operation in various scenarios, ranging from intense multi-domain battlefields to remote and challenging environments such as the Arctic. By utilising advanced AI technologies, AI-WASP will provide improved situational awareness, rapid decision-making, and precise electronic warfare capabilities, thereby ensuring European forces maintain a strategic advantage over potential adversaries.
Participating countries & companies
Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Greece, and Spain have thrown their weight behind the programme, signing a letter of intent to join the development of the AI-powered warfare adaptive swarm platform. They will also provide national funding on top of the €45 million backing by the European Commission. Led by Patria, the powerhouse consortium unites 16 cutting-edge defence innovators from across Europe - including key players from France, Germany, and Lithuania.
