Patria’s mission is to guarantee and develop security of supply, and to deliver reliable defence and security solutions on land, at sea, in the air and in the network.
These foundations also guide Patria’s approach to sustainability. In line with our sustainability programme, we work to build a sustainable future for the generations to come. At its simplest, this is about Patria’s societal role: safeguarding the functioning of society in all circumstances. This requires products and systems that are durable and perform reliably when it matters most.
Patria operates in a demanding and highly regulated environment. Customers and society must be able to trust that products, systems and services perform reliably even in extreme conditions and crisis situations. In this context, sustainability above all means safety, operational reliability and long-term commitment.
Patria’s products and solutions are often in use for decades. They are designed to endure, evolve and remain maintainable and upgradeable throughout their entire lifecycle. Sustainability therefore does not end at the point of delivery, but extends across the full lifespan of the solution, including how it supports customer capability, societal security of supply and safety over the long term.
A long product lifecycle also promotes sustainable use of resources. When solutions are developed and maintained with a long-term perspective, the outcomes are more sustainable from an environmental standpoint as well.
At the same time, lifecycle thinking strengthens the security of supply. The ability to maintain and develop critical systems even in exceptional circumstances.
At Patria, sustainability is clearly reflected in how the business is governed and the principles underpinning everyday work. High standards of business integrity, good governance and regulatory compliance are prerequisites for trust in the defence industry.
Patria operates in a complex international environment where export control, sanctions and compliance matters are part of daily business. The company adheres to internationally recognised human rights and labour standards, including the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Patria also requires responsible practices from its partners and suppliers. In this context, sustainability means conducting business transparently, consistently and in accordance with jointly agreed principles. Our collaboration projects undergo a thorough evaluation process, that takes regulatory and ethical considerations into account.
Sustainability cannot be realised without people. Patria’s employees play a key role in translating sustainability into everyday action. Safety culture, competence and wellbeing are areas in which Patria has invested systematically. For example, Patria operates in accordance with a zero accidents principle, and all employees are encouraged to systematically make safety observations.
In recent years, Patria has grown significantly and recruited a substantial number of new employees. In 2025 alone, more than 500 new colleagues joined the company. Alongside growth, strong emphasis has been placed on occupational safety, preventive risk management and shared operating models. Sustainability is also reflected in the promotion of equality, diversity and competence development. Our goal is a workplace where everyone can work safely and find their work meaningful.
Functionality and reliability form the foundation of our operations. At the same time, we continuously develop our activities and make the necessary choices in a changing operating environment. Efficiency, lifecycle solutions and technological development offer opportunities to improve both performance and sustainability.
Patria’s sustainability work progresses in a phased and realistic manner. Measures are implemented in a prioritised and systematic way, and the direction is clear: sustainability is an integral part of our strategy, and its role in the business is strengthened consistently.
From Patria’s perspective, sustainability is above all about societal responsibility. It is not only about measuring impacts, but about building security, trust and resilience in society over the long term. In the defence and security industry, sustainability means the ability to carry responsibility when it matters most.
