Patria and the city of Hämeenlinna have negotiated a letter of intent regarding cooperation. The agreement will be presented to the City Board for a decision on Monday, 11 May 2026, and is intended to be signed once the Board's decision takes effect. This is a significant and unique contract for both parties, reinforcing their shared commitment to developing the region’s vitality and ecosystem work around the defence industry.

The aim of the letter of intent is to create the optimal operating environment for the defence industry in Hämeenlinna, ensuring the sector has the best conditions to grow, diversify, and enhance the region’s vitality. Both Hämeenlinna and Patria are committed to promoting dialogue and exploring opportunities for collaboration in themes related to regional development and strengthening the operational prerequisites of the defence industry.

Concrete initiatives for cooperation include, among others, a showcase space serving the local defence industry and the launch of planning for new development environments. The agreement also covers development of the operational environment, questions related to expertise and workforce, as well as collaboration in various potential projects. The purpose of the cooperation is to strengthen the region’s attractiveness, reputation, and functionality as a business environment.

A steering group will be established for questions relating to the letter of intent, with representatives appointed from both the city Hämeenlinna and Patria. The letter of intent will remain valid until further notice.

Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area: “Hämeenlinna has been a key city for Patria for decades, and we have invested heavily in local operations. In Hämeenlinna, we have a hub for armoured vehicle expertise and several local partners, and industry collaboration plays a key role in the growth of both Patria and the industry. Our long-standing excellent cooperation with Hämeenlinna gains fresh momentum as we deepen our partnership with an agreement focused on developing the local vitality of the defence industry,” says Järvinen.

According to Olli-Poika Parviainen, Mayor of Hämeenlinna, this is an excellent opportunity for the city to deepen collaboration with a prominent player. “Cooperation between the city and Patria is already seamless, and it is in the city’s interest to further develop this collaboration, for example through high-quality business services and ecosystem work. At the same time, we can pursue our strategic objective to strengthen the operational prerequisites of the defence industry and its surrounding supply chains in Hämeenlinna, and increase the city’s appeal as a hub for this important industrial sector,” Parviainen says.
