The Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) have signed an Implementation Arrangement on cooperation in preparing the procurement of tracked armoured personnel carriers. The arrangement enables technology cooperation in the pre-series procurement of the Patria TRACKX tracked vehicle developed by Patria, as well as in potential follow-on procurements.
The Patria TRACKX tracked armoured personnel carrier has been developed as part of the multinational FAMOUS programme co-funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF). The development aims to deliver a vehicle with ballistic protection, high road mobility, and the ability to operate effectively in demanding environments, including soft terrains, from deep snow and marshes to desert sand dunes. Patria TRACKX combines the best features of wheeled and traditional tracked vehicles, delivering unmatched operational freedom to maneuver anytime and anywhere ‒ across all seasons, terrains, and conditions.
“We at Patria are very pleased to see strong interest in Patria TRACKX from Finland and Sweden, where demanding and Arctic conditions set high requirements that the vehicle is well suited to meet. TRACKX is a versatile tracked vehicle designed to operate efficiently in all conditions, combining excellent off-road mobility, situational awareness, a sufficient level of protection and exceptional operational range. Our objective is to bring the tracked vehicle into serial production as early as 2027,” says Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area.and continues:
“The vehicle has already met the high-performance requirements set by the countries participating in the FAMOUS programme, and we expect strong interest in the common tracked vehicle platform, similarly to what we have seen in the multinational Patria 6x6-based CAVS programme. Going forward, cooperation between multiple countries ‒ and the resulting joint TRACKX procurements ‒ will reduce cost levels, improve security of supply, and increase the interoperability of the fleet.”
For Finland and Sweden, Patria TRACKX is of particular interest for improving the mobility of land forces operating in Arctic conditions, and also for other land forces units requiring high mobility in challenging terrain. The signed Implementation Arrangement enables the exchange of information related to Patria TRACKX during the pre-series procurement phase. Finland and Sweden will take national decisions on the procurement of pre-series vehicles and will conduct their own assessments regarding suitability for operational use and potential follow-on procurements within their armed forces.
The Implementation Arrangement for Common Arctic Mobility, IA CAM between Finland and Sweden, was signed on 15 June at the Eurosatory 2026 event in Paris by Lieutenant General Jari Mikkonen, the Finnish Defence Forces Deputy Chief of Staff, Armaments and Logistics, and Brigadier General Jonas Lotsne, Director of the Land Systems Department of the Swedish Defence Agency (FMV).
Patria launched the Patria TRACKX tracked vehicle at the DSEI UK event in London in September 2025.
