Patria has conducted successful test firings with the new ARVE mobile field gun

Patria introduced its new 155 SPG mobile artillery system (Self-Propelled Gun) suitable for Arctic conditions in March 2025 at the international Arctic Event in Lapland. The system, operating under the project name Patria ARVE (ARtillery on VEhicle), is based on Patria's 155K98 field artillery system, which is widely used by the Finnish Defence Forces, and is integrated into the chassis of the Sisu all-terrain truck.
The system, which is entirely domestic production, is modular and fully compatible with the current domestic artillery fleet in terms of maintenance, spare parts and ammunition. It is also compatible with NATO’s artillery ammunition and fire control.
During the test firings carried out in June 2025, dozens of shots were fired at different elevations and side angles as well as in direct fire. The system performed as expected throughout the firings, despite the weapon firing even the most powerful overpressure charge.
"It has been truly great to develop to Patria a new and innovative ARVE mobile field gun system for our overall indirect fire offering, especially now that the security situation in our neighboring areas has become more tense. The system is designed for harsh field conditions and our expectations regarding its usability, performance and reliability are very high. The completely successful test and acceptance firings are a testament to both Patria's domestic weapon system expertise and ARVE's technical readiness. We believe that our new product will meet the performance requirements of our customers and will also find its way into international markets," says Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria's Defence and Weapon Systems Business Area.
The system combines excellent mobility with a high rate of fire and also enables firing at naval targets. Patria's cost-effective mobile artillery solution offers the most advanced technology and performance, which is nevertheless based on proven subsystems in operational use. It can be integrated into any suitable vehicle platform and customers' own indirect fire control systems as part of a larger artillery system.
Patria believes that the production line for the new mobile artillery solution will bring positive employment effects to Finland, which already has globally recognized expertise in artillery weapon systems. The annual employment effect would be at least 70 person-years in several provinces, depending on the realization of the targeted production volume.
