New company to safeguard Finnish operational reliability on land and at sea – An agile service partner for marine and engine technologies emerges in Finland

In a nutshell:

  • Western Shipyard, Laivakone, and Hämeen Diesel are merging to create Millog Marine & Power.
  • The new company will be one of Finland’s most comprehensive experts in the maintenance of marine and engine technology.
  • Millog Marine & Power will respond to the transformation of the maritime industry and contributes to ensuring operational reliability in Finland.

Millog companies Oy Western Shipyard Ltd, Laivakone Oy, and Hämeen Diesel Oy are merging to create Millog Marine & Power Oy. The new company will provide docking and project services, engine and transmission repairs, and field service to cater to the needs of the maritime cluster, industries, the energy sector, and heavy machinery.

The merger will make Millog Marine & Power one of Finland’s most comprehensive experts in the maintenance of marine and engine technology.

“All three companies complement each other’s expertise very well. Our service offering will expand in docking services and field maintenance to cover engine, machinery, electrical, and hydraulic work. All these services are now available from a single reliable partner,” says Janne Sirviö, CEO of Millog Marine & Power.

Services respond to the transformation of the shipping business

The green transition and ever-evolving technologies present new challenges for the maritime industry. Smart technology and different remote monitoring solutions are proliferating in ships. At the same time, electric and LNG engines are becoming more common. New types of equipment and systems require specialist expertise and capabilities for demanding maintenance.

The importance of a Finnish supply chain and operational reliability have been topics of increasing debate in recent years. Contingency planning, which was previously the domain of the authorities, is now also a concern of companies.

“Millog Marine & Power’s units have a long history and decades of experience in the development of our sectors. We are not burdened by constraints in areas such as mobility or availability, unlike companies that depend on long subcontracting chains. Furthermore, our network of partners mainly consists of Finnish companies, and we are able to provide employees with security clearance for projects that demand high security,” summarises Janne Sirviö.

Preventive maintenance throughout the Baltic Sea region

The merger will also provide Millog Marine & Power Oy with a greater geographic reach to serve its long-term customers. The company’s offices are in Teijo, Vantaa, and Hämeenlinna, and the merger will have a positive impact on employment in these localities.

Agile field service is one of Millog Marine & Power’s core strengths, enabling the company to respond swiftly, even in urgent cases.

“We aim to be a reliable maintenance partner for our customers – one that is capable of anticipating forthcoming needs and, if necessary, responding and helping customers if problems arise – in ports, on ships, or on land. Our field service unit can be deployed rapidly anywhere in the Baltic Sea and even further afield if necessary,” Sirviö says.

Maritime passenger and cargo traffic volumes are increasing year by year, highlighting the need for preventive maintenance and shorter docking times.

“Together, we can offer our customers most of the marine and engine technology services they need under one roof. This makes maintenance more cost-effective, and the same supplier can provide support throughout the life cycles of vessels and engines,” says Jukka Suvanto, Sales Manager.

Millog Marine & Power is an agile and comprehensive partner for the maintenance of marine and engine technology. Our services include maintenance and dry docking of vessels, field maintenance, conversion projects, technical marine structures, and maintenance of engines and power plants. In addition to maintenance, we have the capability to undertake Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) and conversion projects, whether small or large.
