Patria is participating in the Sleep Easy project coordinated by Maanpuolustuksen Tuki ry, a voluntary defence organisation. The project showcases voluntary defence and security work and promotes overall security as part of the Finland 100 centennial celebrations of Finland’s independence.
The objective of the Sleep Easy project is to increase awareness of overall security in society and motivate citizens to take part in voluntary defence and security work. Transmitting the legacy of the veterans and preventing social exclusion are key themes in the project.
Patria as part of comprehensive security
Comprehensive security is a Finnish preparedness model, in which the security of society is ensured in cooperation with various parties. Security arises from the cooperation of authorities, businesses, NGOs and citizens. A key pillar of comprehensive security is security of supply, in which Patria has a significant role. “A substantial number of Patria's functions and personnel have responsibility for ensuring security of supply in exceptional circumstances. Security of supply involves ensuring that society continues to function in disruptive situations. This requires extensive cooperation between businesses, public authorities and industry associations”, says Birgitta Selonen, Vice President, Corporate Communications at Patria. “Patria’s customer promise, When if is not an option, also reflects the company’s role in ensuring security of supply. Of the themes of the Sleep Easy project, the prevention of social exclusion is also an important subject for Patria. For several years now, the company has been sponsoring numerous projects for the prevention of marginalisation, including the on-going restoration project of the VL Myrsky fighter, in which young mechanics and vocational students play an active role.
Extensive presentation of comprehensive security actors
The Sleep Easy project celebrates 100 years of Finland’s independence as part of the official Finland 100 programme of the Prime Minister’s Office. The project coordinated by Maanpuolustuksen Tuki ry has assembled a broad base of actors from the various sectors of comprehensive security. The participants include voluntary defence organisations, veterans’ associations and authorities. The project seeks to increase awareness of the activities of organisations such as the Finnish National Agency for Education, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defence, Security Committee, National Emergency Supply Agency, Finnish Defence Forces, Finnish Border Guard, Customs, Police, rescue services and Emergency Response Centre Administration. “Through the project, we are seeking to consolidate the cooperation between actors in the field of comprehensive security, that is, citizens, organisations, businesses and authorities, and to make comprehensive security a part of Finland’s country image”, says Kaisa-Maria Tölli, coordinator of the Sleep Easy project. Activities communicating these themes will be organised throughout the project year 2017. The Sleep Easy project includes 10 comprehensive security events organised in different parts of Finland, five expert seminars and a communications campaign. The project will culminate in a main event held in the Kansalaistori Plaza in August 2017. The total attendance target for the events is 300,000 and the target for the high-quality media campaign is an audience of two million Finns. The theme of the campaign is SLEEP EASY – so that everyone in Finland can sleep their nights in peace.
